Police said they received a report of the accident on Tsing Ma Bridge at 8.31am on Thursday. Nine private cars and one light goods vehicle were involved in the pile-up, leaving 10 people with minor injuries, a police spokesperson said. A man who drove one of the private cars was arrested on suspicion of “driving while disqualified.” All of the injured were sent to North Lantau Hospital in Tung Chung. Footage and photos from the scene showed a black private car flipped on its side. The Transport Department said in an update at around 11.40am that the fast lane of the Tsing Ma Bridge was closed to all traffic, with only the middle and slow lanes available to drivers. The department reported congested traffic with queues ending near Nam Wan Tunnel and Cheung On Estate, a public housing estate in Tsing Yi, while the lower deck of the bridge had been opened to vehicles. “Motorists are advised to drive with utmost care and patience,” it said. According to the department, bus services are affected by the accident, while Airport Express and Tung Chung line MTR services have been enhanced to facilitate travel. According to bus operator Citybus, its airport-bound bus routes continue to run on the lower deck and slow lane of Tsing Ma Bridge, but travel times are expected to be longer. Passengers are advised to allow ample time when planning their journeys, it added.
