Lee Ho-yin, an FSD commander, told reporters shortly after midnight on Friday that the blaze was extinguished around five hours after firefighters arrived at the scene. The fire broke out in two structures made of iron and brick in Lo Wai village on Thursday evening, Lee said. Firefighters received a report of the fire at 6.48pm and arrived at the village in six minutes. “The fire was very intense at the scene. The blaze was very close to nearby houses,” he said in Cantonese. The fire was upgraded to a No. 3 alarm at 10pm to prevent the flames from spreading to other houses, he added. It was extinguished at around 12.20am on Friday, with no casualties reported. Firefighters helped 60 people evacuate, while another 40 made their own way to safety, Lee added.
