6 people injured in Marine Department vessel engine blast

Six people, aged between 23 and 66, have been injured after a Marine Department vessel’s engine exploded at the Government Dockyard on Stonecutters Island in Kowloon. Among the six injured, three were Marine Department staff and the other three were inspection contractors. They were wounded by shrapnel from the explosion and were conscious when sent to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment, police said. The Fire Services Department said it deployed six fire trucks, four ambulances, and three fire services vessels to the scene. Connected to western Kowloon via a highway, Stonecutters Island is home to the Government Dockyard, where maintenance of government vessels – including those belonging to the Hong Kong Police Force and the Customs and Excise Department – is conducted.
