Lai said the standing committee agreed to disband, adding that the procedure will be completed “very soon.” Founded in 1958, the HKFS is composed of student unions from higher education institutions in Hong Kong. The group has a long history of activism in student movements. “As you could see, many college student unions in different universities disbanded recently. And we were facing the same pressure. And there is nothing we can do except for disband, ” Lai said in Cantonese.
