The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) said on Wednesday that six people – two males and four females, aged 29 to 35 – had fallen ill after having dinner at a restaurant called Chef’s Cuts, located at the Airside mall in Kai Tak. Preliminary investigations showed that the six ate raw oysters at the restaurant last Friday, the CHP said in a statement. “They developed diarrhoea, abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea and fever about 11 to 37 hours after having dinner” at the restaurant, the CHP said. It was the fourth similar food poisoning incident since last Friday, when the CHP reported that 12 people had fallen ill after having raw oysters and sashimi at a Japanese restaurant, Harvest House, in Causeway Bay on January 26. On Monday, the CHP reported that four people felt unwell after having raw oysters and salad at the French steakhouse L’Amour in Central. On Tuesday, six others were reportedly sick after consuming pre-shucked oysters and soy-sauce-marinated crab at Dol Dam Gil Korean Restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui. In all four cases, the CHP suspected the groups may have contracted food poisoning from consuming raw food. Investigations are underway. The CHP urged residents to avoid eating raw seafood and to maintain personal, food, and environmental hygiene at all times.
