20th December 2025 – (Hong Kong) Customs officers yesterday (19th December) uncovered a suspected illegal import of an animal at the Man Kam To Control Point, seizing a kitten valued at about HK$1,000. A 39-year-old inbound male passenger was stopped in the Arrival Hall, where officers conducting a personal search discovered a kitten concealed in a pocket sewn onto his shirt. He was arrested at the scene.
The case has been referred to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department for further investigation.
Customs reminded the public that importing animals into Hong Kong without a valid permit is an offence. Under the Rabies Regulation, anyone convicted of unlawfully importing animals, carcasses or animal products is liable to a maximum fine of HK$50,000 and imprisonment for up to one year.
