McDonald’s staff praised after tourists eat instant noodles without ordering

21st December 2025 – (Hong Kong) A pair of tourists have sparked online debate after they were photographed eating their own instant noodles inside a McDonald’s branch in Tsim Sha Tsui without ordering anything from the restaurant, prompting staff to step in and ask them to leave.

Social media users shared images of the incident, which took place at McDonald’s (Star House) in Tsim Sha Tsui. According to the post, the couple entered the fast-food outlet with their luggage, did not make any purchases, and instead occupied a table while eating cup noodles they had brought with them. After noticing the situation, a member of staff repeatedly approached the pair and advised them to stop. The tourists eventually left in a hurry before finishing their meal.

Many internet users applauded the staff member’s handling of the situation, commenting that eating outside food at a restaurant was clearly inappropriate. Some praised the worker for “doing exactly the right thing”, while others remarked that the couple could easily have bought a drink to avoid embarrassment, but appeared unwilling even to spend that amount.

The photos, posted in a Facebook group were said to have been taken at around 11am on 18th December. They show a man and a woman seated at a table eating instant noodles, with their own water bottle on the table and two suitcases and a backpack beside them, suggesting they were travellers. Another photo shows a female McDonald’s employee standing by the table, apparently speaking to the pair and asking them not to continue.
