22nd December 2025 – (Delhi) An Air India flight operating from Delhi to Mumbai was compelled to make an emergency return to Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday morning after one of its engines was shut down in flight. No injuries or casualties were reported among passengers or crew, officials confirmed.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation said that Air India flight AI-887, which had departed from Delhi bound for Mumbai, turned back shortly after take-off due to a technical malfunction. The aircraft’s crew detected that the oil pressure in one of the engines had dropped to zero, prompting a precautionary engine shutdown and a request for priority landing back in Delhi.

The aircraft landed safely and was brought to a halt without further incident, with all passengers disembarking normally. Air India has arranged alternative travel for those on board, ensuring that their onward journeys can be completed with minimal disruption.

In a statement, the airline said it is extending full cooperation to the inquiry initiated by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The ministry has ordered a formal investigation into the incident and has requested a comprehensive report detailing the technical issue, the sequence of events and the response by the flight crew and airline.
