22nd December 2025 – (Hong Kong) A 28-year-old man surnamed Tang, who went missing while hiking with his mother on Tai Tong Shan Road on Sunday (21st December), was located safe early this morning. Staff at Tai Lam Tunnel spotted him at 6.25am and arranged his transfer to Pok Oi Hospital. He had no visible injuries and was conscious.
According to information available, the man has emotional and intellectual disabilities. His mother had collected him from a care facility on Sunday to visit the Tai Tong Sweet Gum Woods. After becoming separated, he reportedly searched around Yuen Long for his mother before making his way to the tunnel in the early hours. Tunnel staff contacted his mother and facilitated his admission to hospital for assessment.
Police received a report at 5.22pm on Sunday from a 57-year-old woman surnamed Lee, who said she had travelled by bus with her 28-year-old son to hike in the Tai Tong Shan Road area. At about 4.41pm, near Kat Hing Bridge in Tai Lam Country Park, she sat down to rest while her son went to the toilet and failed to return.
An extensive search by land and air ensued, with the Government Flying Service deploying a helicopter. By 3.30am on Monday (22nd December), there had been no sighting. He was subsequently found at Tai Lam Tunnel at 6.25am and taken to hospital, where he remained clear-headed and without apparent external injuries.
