23rd December 2025 – (Hong Kong) A social media post has alleged that a family member discovered a black, decayed tooth inside a “rich milk toast” purchased from Maxim’s Cakes. The poster said the relative felt “so disgusted they vomited throughout the day”.

Maxim’s Cakes said it received the complaint on Monday (22nd December) concerning its Sai Wan Ho branch and immediately contacted the customer. The company understands the item has been submitted to the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) for examination and said it will fully co-operate with the investigation, stressing its ongoing commitment to food safety and quality.

According to the social media account, the family bought milk toast for breakfast from the chain and reportedly found a black, decayed tooth embedded in the product mid-meal. The relative checked their own teeth and confirmed the object was not theirs, before notifying the FEHD and sending the foreign object for testing. The poster added the incident had left them unable to look at bread without feeling sick and that they would avoid Maxim’s products in future.

In response, Maxim’s Cakes said the customer reported purchasing the item on Friday (19th December) at the Sai Wan Ho outlet, with the grandmother discovering a tooth-like object while eating on Sunday (21st December). The company reiterated it will assist the FEHD’s inquiry.

Maxim’s Cakes emphasised that all staff wear masks and head coverings and are required to don full protective clothing throughout production and packaging. Its production line is equipped with advanced detection equipment to ensure compliance with food safety standards. The company said it remains committed to providing safe, high-quality food to customers.
