19th December 2025 – (Hong Kong) Fire Services Department officer Ho Wai‑ho, 37, who died in the Grade Five blaze at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po that left more than 100 people dead or injured, was interred at Gallant Garden in Wo Hop Shek Public Cemetery on Friday following a full honours funeral.

The ceremony began at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hung Hom, where a public mourning area was set up outside in the morning. After the official rites, the hearse and convoy proceeded to the Wang Fuk Court disaster site for a roadside tribute and then to Sha Tin Fire Station. The cortege subsequently travelled to Gallant Garden for the burial, with members of the public invited to pay their last respects along the route.

At 1.03pm, the cortege arrived at Gallant Garden to commence the interment. Family members had entered earlier, some needing assistance due to grief; one relative brought a pet dog to the service. At 1.11pm, the casket was borne from the fire services hearse as the silver band struck up, and the pallbearers escorted it slowly into the cemetery. Mourners observed around two minutes of silence, after which the colour guard retired the regional flag from the casket.

By 1.25pm, Ho’s helmet had been placed atop the casket before undertakers lowered it into the grave. Family, friends and colleagues then approached in turn to lay flowers and bow in tribute. Ho, who is survived by his parents, elder brother, younger brother and fiancée, received the department’s highest funeral honours in recognition of his courage and sacrifice.
