19th December 2025 – (Hong Kong) The Immigration Department (ImmD) announced on Friday, 19th December, that from Monday, 22nd December, the minimum age for eligible travellers to use self‑service immigration clearance (e‑Channel) will be reduced to seven years old.
The change applies to holders of the Electronic Exit‑Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao (e‑EEP), People’s Republic of China passport holders, and departing visitors enrolled in the Smart Departure scheme. Currently, these travellers must be at least 11 years old to use e‑Channels.
The ImmD said it continues to harness technology and introduce measures to improve service standards and increase throughput at control points. Lowering the age threshold will further streamline clearance and allow more eligible visitors to benefit from the faster, more convenient e‑Channel service. From Monday, qualifying travellers aged seven or above may use e‑Channels at all control points for self‑service immigration clearance.
