19th December 2025 – (Hong Kong) The Environmental Protection Department (EPD) today, 19 December, encouraged residents and commercial and industrial (C&I) organisations to recycle natural Christmas trees slated for disposal through the 2025–26 Natural Christmas Trees (NCTs) Recycling Programme. Collected trees will be processed at Y·PARK and repurposed into materials such as mulch and sawdust for planting and landscaping.
Collections will run from 3 to 7 January 2026 at a network of designated sites. A Central Collection Point (CCP) will operate at Y·PARK, Lung Kwu Sheung Tan, Tuen Mun (tel: 5743 9221), from 9am to 6pm. District Collection Points (DCPs) — comprising EPD Recycling Stations and Food and Environmental Hygiene Department refuse collection points — will also accept household NCTs up to two metres in height at specified times across Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, including GREEN@EASTERN (Shau Kei Wan), GREEN@WAN CHAI, Ap Lei Chau Municipal Services Building RCP, Arbuthnot Road RCP and Paterson Street RCP; GREEN@KWUN TONG, GREEN@SHAM SHUI PO, GREEN@WONG TAI SIN and Sai Yee Street (Flower Market Road) RCP; and GREEN@SHA TIN, GREEN@YUEN LONG, GREEN@TUEN MUN, GREEN@KWAI TSING, GREEN@TAI PO, GREEN@ISLANDS and GREEN@SAI KUNG. Those needing to recycle trees before 3rd January or between 8th and 20th January 2026 may deliver them directly to Y·PARK during operating hours (9am–6pm, Monday to Saturday, excluding public holidays).
An EPD spokesperson noted that the programme is limited to natural trees. To aid processing, all lights, plastic stands, decorations and tape must be removed prior to delivery. The public is encouraged to retain artificial trees and festive ornaments for reuse, and to replant small potted plants such as poinsettias.
Participants delivering NCTs to the CCP or Recycling Stations will receive an e‑certificate, and gifts will be available at Recycling Stations while stocks last. Further information is available at the Hong Kong Waste Reduction website: www.wastereduction.gov.hk/en-hk/article/2025-26-natural-christmas-trees-recycling-programme.
The EPD also welcomes other organisations and associations to offer NCT recycling services to facilitate wider participation and bolster waste‑reduction efforts.
